Installation Guide of Linux Mint With Rufus

Linux Mint is an operating system that is very similar to Windows 10. It is a very popular operating system among advanced Linux users. In this guide, we will show you how to install Linux Mint using software called "Rufus". First of all, back your computer. It's a good idea to back up your computer's data and settings first, even if you don't want to keep them on Linux. This way, you can at least restore your computer without any hassle even if something goes wrong.

  • Then download, Rufus or Win32 Disk Imager from one of their official websites and install it on your PC. Win32 Disk Imager is a very similar tool to Rufus. It is very versatile and designed to create bootable devices. You can also use it to make a bootable USB flash drive to install Linux Mint.
  • After that, download the required ISO file from Linux Mint's website. If you are using Rufus, you can download the ISO file within the software. However, we don't recommend that because it takes much more time than a regular download.
  • Now, we are going to copy that ISO file into a USB flash drive. We also can burn it to a DVD but compared to that using a USB flash drive is very easy. You need a USB flash drive with 16GB of free space to do this. Just like a hard drive, you can also make a USB flash drive bootable so that it loads an operating system when the PC starts. But we are going to use this USB flash drive as an installation media.
  • Now we are ready to start the process. Plug your USB flash drive into the PC and open up the Rufus or Win32 Disk Imager. Wait a few minutes and the software will automatically detect the plugged USB flash drive.
  • Locate the ISO file using Win32 Disk Imager and all you have to do is click on the "Start" button to start the process. Once you've done that it will take a couple of minutes to complete. Once completed, Rufus will display you a message.
  • After that, you can keep the USB flash drive plugged in your system and reboot your PC. Now, Linux Mint setup will load using the USB flash drive and you can use this setup to install Linux Mint.
  • Once you are in the Linux Mint installation screen, click the Install Linux Mint desktop shortcut to start the installation. Fill in the basic information and once you click on "Next", "Installation Type" window will open. This determines whether you install Linux as the main operating system or as a dual boot alongside your Windows operating system. Select one of the following settings and click on "Continue".
  • Now, it's time to set the partitions. We highly advise you to install Linux Mint on a separate partition from Windows to avoid issues. Once you've done that you can continue with the installation.

Linux Mint

After everything is completed, to boot from Linux Mint, eject the USB flash drive and select Linux Mint from the GRUB window that loads while starting your computer. You can even set a default operating system in the GRUB.
